Ready to Pop baby shower favors

You know you are old when your grand kids have kids.   On the other hand,  just as one group of child grow up and go have lives there are new ones who have tummies to tickle and necks to blow raspberries on.  Circle of grandma life.

This last week-end we headed for San Diego because two of my daughter-in-laws and I hosted a shower for a grandson’s first baby.   Because of distance and schedules, we used Pinterest to plan the shower.  We first created a secret board and pinned all the ideas for themes, etc that we each like.   We narrowed it down to rubber duckies and nautical then used the cake as the final decision point.   Rubber duckies won out.  Yeah for my team!   We then divided us areas we each would be responsible for.  Since I live 6 hours away I had to find things that where either last moment or that I could make ahead and transport.   One of the items I select was the favors.

IMG_0236I saw some cute Ready to Pop favors filled with either caramel corn or regular pop corn on Pinterest (pop corn boxes / bags) and decided I want to do something like that for the shower.  I had just purchased Photoshop Elements so of course I had to add the use of it into my plans.   The mother-to-be had posted some pregnancy photos on Facebook when she was about 6 months.   I chose one that I thought best showed off her stomach and then deleted the background.   I then used the liquify command and made her stomach a more appropriate size for this late in her pregnancy.

I imported the altered image into Powerpoint and added Ready to Pop.  After some trial and error, I found the size that would work with my tag paper punch and then just duplicated it across the page.  I printed it on white card stock and then chose blue and blue-green card stock for the back of the tags.  Lots of punches later, I had a stack of ready to glue.   I glued one color tag to one white tags and then punched a whole for the ribbon to go through.  Now I am ready for assembly.

The rest was easy.  I just filled up some clear treat bags with caramel corn then closed it with the ribbon and tab.  We put them in a basket for the shower and everyone thought they were adorable.  Don’t you love it when something you did turns out well?
